What is a Balanced Diet?
An adequate and balanced diet meets all the nutritional requirement of you for maintenance, repair, growth and development of your body.
It includes energy, all nutrients needed in an appropriate amount and proportion. The presence or absence of one essential nutrient may affect the availability, absorption and metabolism in your body. These nutrients (Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals) on a balanced proportion will help you to maintain a proper health.

Why are they important?
Carbohydrates provide energy for the brain and muscles. They also prevent protein from being used as an energy source and enable fat metabolism.
Proteins acts as building blocks which build and repair your body parts including bone, muscle, skin, hair, blood, cartilage etc. They are also utilized to make hormones and enzymes which signals and maintains the metabolism in body.
Fats are the major fuel store for the body. whenever the body needs the stored fats are converted to energy molecules to continue the performance.

A Balanced diet may also ensure that you are consuming adequate amount
of functional food constituents (dietary fiber, phytonutrients) that, although not defined as nutrients, but have biologic effects and may influence health and susceptibility to various disease conditions.
